What is a podiatrist?

Doctors of the foot, ankle & lower leg

Podiatrists are medical specialists who help with problems that affect your feet or lower legs. They can treat injuries as well as complications from ongoing health issues like diabetes.

They have “DPM” (doctor of podiatric medicine) after their names instead of “MD.” Podiatrists can do surgery, reset broken bones, prescribe drugs, and order lab tests or x-rays — and often work closely with other specialists when a problem affects your feet or lower legs.

Our doctors believe in conservative treatment and perform surgery only when it’s necessary. Their extensive foot-and-ankle training and Board Certification make them experts at caring for your feet — in the office and in the operating room.

Services

Complete care, from routine to reconstructive

Everything your feet may need under one roof — with on-site x-ray to diagnose and treat in a single visit.

Preventative Care

Regular treatment of long, painful nails and foot-health review for patients with chronic illness — Diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, Multiple Sclerosis, arteriosclerosis and others. We also treat callouses to prevent potential ulceration.

Wound Care

Wounds occur for many reasons, and our doctors treat each individually. Preventive care can identify issues and treat them more quickly. Our doctors are trained in up-to-date methods in limb preservation.

Diabetic Therapeutic Shoes

Medicare and some commercial plans allow dispensing of therapeutic shoes and inserts for Diabetic patients. There is an extensive qualification process — our trained staff collaborate with your primary care provider.

Heel Pain

Heel pain has many sources; we normally use an x-ray to identify any bony cause. Treatments include stretching, physical therapy, a night splint, a walking boot, custom orthotics, or injections. Surgery is delayed until conservative treatment is tried.

Acute Symptoms

Our doctors are experts in painful acute conditions like ingrown toenails, gout, fractures, sprains, swelling, and sports injuries. We have x-ray technology on site to assist in diagnosing injuries.

Surgery

Our doctors are on staff at LMH, where they perform most of their surgeries. They believe in conservative treatment and operate only when necessary — their training and Board Certification make them experts in the office and the operating room.
